Granada

Granada is a city and also the capital of the province of the same “Granada”. It is located in the autonomous region of Andalusia, Spain and situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Brilliant in architecture, the most famous place is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built in the 14th century. The Alhambra is located at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city of below. Other architectures include Spanish Renaissance and Moorish.

Granada History

Granada was first settled by native tribes in the prehistoric period. When the Romans colonised southern Spain, they built a city called Illibris.

In the 8th century the invading Arabs gave it its current name of Granada.

It was the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, ruled by Queen Isabel of Castile and her husband Ferdinand of Aragon.
